doomy/sludgy Vitus riffs meets 70s heavy groove,psychedelic atomosphere,long
trippy acid guitar works, amazing song writing. This is the true
master piece for TRUE DOOM fans all around the world!!!!!
BLOOD FARMERS was a great band.
Their music was very serious and they not only created good music
but also had their own voices. Once we listen to their sound, It's
easy to hear the shades of bands such as SAINT VITUS or BLUE CHEER and of course BLACK SABBATH as their influences. If they had made their music only from infatuation
with such bands, they wouldn't have captured my heart so much.
Such bands are forever -so it's not possble to imagine not to listen
to VITUS, is it?- on the other hand, these bands
were already in the past. Blood Farmers built their
own original sound from these foundations. Personally, I think the
sound of Dave's guitar is especially quite amazing.
His style is greatly influenced by Dave Chandler, but in mysterious
ways, it rather reminds me of the voice Janis Joplin screamed out.
The violent sound of deep loneliness. "PERMANENT BRAIN
DAMAGE" is their first demo, recorded in 1991 and
remixed ten years later. The first five tracks are the same as the
original release but the order has changed. The title of "Veil
of Blood" has been changed to "Scream Bloody Murder"
with new lyrics. If you've ever heard the original, you will notice
immediately that the vocals are re-recorded for this release. If
this were a simple reissue, maybe the original vocal part would
be fine and have an interesting flavor in its way. But in the face
of the reissue as a work, the decision to replace the vocals is
characteristic of them having an uncompromising attitude towards
their music. About the bonus track "AWAKENING THE BEAST",
this four-part instrumental is their last work, recorded live in
1996.
Once you listen to this album, you
will notice these tracks are too great to be called just a demo.
The deep long track moved to the opening of the CD tells us BLOOD
FARMERS is not a band to play compact tunes. There are
short great songs, however, such as "BULLET IN MY HEAD"
which appears on the soundtrack CD for the film "I AM VENGENCE".
The band is slow, sluggish, deeply downed and kind of showing the
endless road before our eyes. They are not boring, however, because
of the firm composition. This reissue gives a better impression
of the band than the original. That's them. The weird psychedelic
sense holding deviance as if deranged. The exquisite balance is
dramatic but not too grandiose like later 60's to early 70's British
Rock. The unfocused cooped-up feeling arising from between the word
"free" and the reality in America. Their music is not
simply 70's flavored, but unaffected by the era it is actually from.
The music is beautiful and full of distortion. ?
